Cooking Oils

Living a healthier lifestyle means to eat the right foods. It can be a challenge to find cooking oils that fit the criteria, when all oils are considered fats. When you walk down the baking aisle of your favorite grocery store, there are shelves full of different oils that all look just about the same to the naked eye. The reality, though, is that there are good fats and bad fats, and there are 3 essential cooking oils that have wonderful health benefits.

 Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Also known as EVOO, courtesy of Food Network Chef Rachel Ray, extra virgin olive oil is one of the most beneficial and healthy oils you can consume. It is packed with monosaturated fatty acids, which are fats that are good for you, as opposed to regular saturated fat that can eventually lead you to having high blood pressure and heart disease. Olive oil consumption can help fight off diseases and colon cancer.

Extra virgin olive oil can be consumed straight from the first squeeze of the fruit without processing. It is the most pure concentrate of the oil. It can be used for most low heat cooking needs and pairs well with herbs and spices for a delightful salad dressing.

 Canola Oil

Canola oil is extracted from the seeds of the canola plant and comes packed with alpha-linolenic acid. This acid will help your fight against heart disease and is similar to the omega-3 acids found in fish oil.
You get all of the health benefits of fish oil without the fishy taste! Canola oil will also help your body fight off diseases as it has a high concentrate of vitamin E.

Canola oil can be used for grilling, deep frying, and sautéing.  It is a cooking oil that is much better for you than vegetable oil and butter.

 Coconut Oil

  Coconut Oil

Extracted from the meat of a fresh tropical coconut, this oil is the saturated fat that is actually good for you. Coconut oil has solid, butter-like texture so it is good for cooking and baking, as well as skincare. When consumed, this oil will help fight offobesity, cancer, and heart disease.

Coconut oil has a high smoke point and so it is good for frying, sautéing, and baking. It has a light coconut flavor, so it will add a little tropical flare to your dishes. This oil can also be used as a coffee creamer.

Choosing the right cooking oil is an essential part of living a healthy lifestyle. You need to incorporate some fat into your diet, but it is important to consume the right kinds of fat.  Not only are extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, and coconut oil good for cooking your foods, but they also go to work in your body to fight off diseases.
